Severe Prison Sentences for Employees Embezzling Funds Allocated for Terrorism Victims

The competent Criminal Court issued ten-year prison sentences against several individuals convicted of embezzling public funds allocated for compensating victims of terrorist operations. The court found that the convicts exploited their official positions in a local administration to issue hundreds of fictitious checks, diverting massive financial sums from the compensation account to operational advance accounts. These deterrent sentences were issued in accordance with the articles of the Iraqi Penal Code pertaining to embezzlement and complicity.
