mniraq - The security forces in Kirkuk Governorate succeeded on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) in apprehending one of the most dangerous thieves and repeat offenders, after he devised a new method to rob citizens and visitors of banks and exchange shops.

According to the ministry's statement, the suspect exploited his old age and facial features to stalk his victims as they exited banks, following a method of secretly disabling the victim's tire, then chasing him to alert him, and as soon as the citizen got out and became busy changing the tire, the suspect would distract him, steal the money and immediately flee outside the governorate to cover his tracks.

The statement noted that Kirkuk anti-crime detachments, in cooperation with the Hawks Cell, were able to identify him and apprehend him in record time, adding that the suspect confessed to carrying out several operations, including stealing 38 million dinars in Kirkuk, and two operations in Diyala involving amounts of 3 million and 1.8 million dinars, in addition to another theft in Salah al-Din.

The statement clarified that investigations showed the suspect is among dangerous repeat offenders, having been sentenced to life imprisonment before 2003 for committing armed robbery and looting crimes, and sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2008 on another looting charge.
