Environmental Reports: Iraq Needs 15 Years to Clear Landmines and War Remnants

Specialized environmental reports have revealed that vast areas of Iraqi territory, estimated at 4,800 square kilometers, are contaminated with landmines and war remnants, placing Iraq at the forefront of globally affected countries. The crisis stems from the era of successive Gulf wars and the repercussions of terrorist organizations taking control of several regions, resulting in thousands of casualties and the disabling of millions of agricultural dunams, particularly in Anbar and Nineveh provinces. Reports confirmed that a comprehensive clearance process requires between 10 to 15 years and massive financial budgets, amid demands to launch investigations into suspicions of corruption and the underperformance of some companies tasked with clearing lands in recent years.
