Competent security authorities in Nineveh Governorate have settled the controversy surrounding the recent wave of fires in agricultural lands, confirming that investigations proved there was no terrorist involvement. Official reports clarified that the fires were mostly caused by farmers burning wheat crop residues in preparation for the upcoming agricultural season; however, winds caused the flames to spread out of control. Although material damages to agricultural properties and irrigation systems were recorded, no casualties occurred. Civil defense teams and service departments mobilized their personnel to contain the fires, while strict warnings were issued to farmers to refrain from such practices to prevent future disasters.
