A recent survey conducted by British researchers has shown a growing public resistance to artificial intelligence technologies, even among previously supportive users. The results indicated that 42% of participants have begun to limit their use of chatbots, while over half believe that these technologies pose significant risks that outweigh their benefits, reflecting a decline in optimistic views regarding AI. Researchers attributed this trend to increasing concerns over data privacy, security, regulatory compliance, and a feeling of discomfort and coercion into using these technologies in the absence of clear opt-out options. The report noted that individuals who choose not to use AI do not necessarily lack the requisite skills, but rather prefer their current working methods. Experts warned tech companies against assuming that familiarity with technology equates to liking it, emphasizing the need to provide controls and tools that allow users to choose when and how they interact with AI, and how to opt out to ensure meaningful consent.
