Parliamentary Security Committee Recommends Dismissal of Navy Commander and Operations Chief Over Fishermen Incident

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee has recommended the dismissal of the Navy Commander and the leadership's Director of Operations, following what was deemed a failure to protect Iraqi fishermen. This recommendation, coordinated with the Army Chief of Staff, includes appointing new leadership for the naval forces after investigations confirmed negligence in official duties. The committee had convened meetings with the families of the fishermen, naval leadership, and the Fishermen's Association, concluding that significant lapses existed in securing fishermen during their operations. Furthermore, parliamentary officials emphasized that the safety of Iraqi fishermen within territorial waters remains a red line, asserting that no compromises will be made regarding their rights and security.
