The National Security Service carried out on Friday (May 8, 2026) a qualitative intelligence operation during which it succeeded in infiltrating one of the banned Baath Party cells operating under new names, and arresting its elements and leaders.

A security statement reported that the operation was based on intelligence and technical efforts extending over several months, which enabled the service's detachments to control the digital platforms and private accounts of the cell and monitor the movements of its elements accurately.

It added that simultaneous operations in several governorates resulted in the arrest of a number of those responsible for the cell and the seizure of electronic devices, documents, and communication tools used in the banned activity.

In a dramatic move, the service's official spokesperson Arshad Al-Hakim entered a live broadcast that was gathering the cell's leaders, surprising them by announcing the service's complete control over the broadcast and revealing their identities before the public.

The service affirmed that this operation is not the end, but rather the launch of a broader campaign to dismantle the remnants of banned networks and pursue their communication lines.
