A medical source in the Diwaniyah Health Directorate reported on Thursday (May 7, 2026) that the death toll from the horrific traffic accident near Al-Badair sub-district, south of the governorate, has risen to seven dead, in addition to two injured in critical condition.
The source explained that the accident resulted from a direct collision between a heavy transport truck and a medium-sized passenger bus, suggesting that excessive speed was the main factor in the catastrophe.
He added that emergency medical teams rushed to the site and transported the injured to nearby hospitals to save their lives, while the victims' bodies were transferred to the Forensic Medicine Department.
He confirmed that security and traffic authorities have initiated a detailed investigation to uncover the circumstances of the accident and determine legal responsibilities accurately.
