The Counter-Terrorism Service announced on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) the launch of a widespread proactive security and inspection campaign across multiple areas of responsibility, aimed at tracking down the defeated remnants of the ISIS terrorist organization and destroying their hideouts. An official statement issued by the Service reported that the operations relied on precise intelligence gathering and intensive aerial and ground reconnaissance, with the participation of specialized units, including K9 detachments and field engineering teams for explosives handling. The campaign covered complex desert and agricultural terrains, stretching from the deserts of western Nineveh, Baiji in Salah al-Din, the Najaf desert, and the Nukhayb desert in Anbar, to the outskirts of Diyala, Wasit, Dhi Qar, and the desert regions in Basra and Al-Muthanna. The Service emphasized that these measures are part of a broader strategy to enhance security stability and heighten readiness levels to protect civil peace nationwide.
