Baghdad's Al-Karkh Police Command announced on Friday (May 8, 2026) that it has uncovered the circumstances of a run-over incident that claimed the life of an elderly woman in the holy district of Kadhimiya, and arrested the fleeing driver in record time.
A security statement noted that a joint investigative team was formed from Al-Taji Police Department and Al-Taji Emergency Sector, which was able, through intensive search and investigation procedures, to identify the perpetrator and his hiding place.
The statement explained that the suspect fled the accident scene leaving the victim on the median island, which led to her death due to severe injuries, noting that anti-crime teams and the security zone participated in pursuing him.
The command confirmed that field efforts resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of the vehicle used in the crime, affirming that professional security work will remain a guarantee that no criminal will escape punishment.
