mniraq - The Strategic Foundation for Public Policies (SFP), through its specialized arm the Strategic Center for Economic Policies and in partnership with the Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC), held on Tuesday (September 15, 2026) a dialogue session exploring the prospects of economic and developmental relations between Iraq and the United Kingdom, under the title Toward a Strategic Iraqi-British Partnership: Building a Shared Economic Future.
The session, chaired by the Foundation's President Dr. Mohammed Hassam Al-Hussaini, witnessed broad participation and discussions with a high-level elite of experts, diplomats and executives from the British side, led by former British Ambassador to Iraq and Oxford Center fellow John Wilks, and IBBC Executive Director Christoph Michels, whose interventions focused on developing trade and institutional relations between Baghdad and London and enhancing the engagement of international companies in the Iraqi market.
The dialogue also saw the participation of former British Army and UN commander and TurnKey CEO Brigadier James Iorry, along with the Council's Baghdad office director Ali Mashkour, to address security files, protection of infrastructure and investments, and post-conflict reconstruction.
The comprehensive discussions among participants addressed how to transition bilateral relations from traditional frameworks to sustainable strategic partnerships, increase the volume of British investments in Iraq, and provide a secure and economic environment attractive to capital and modern technology.
The Strategic Foundation for Public Policies confirmed that it is preparing to publish the full executive summary of the session and the resulting policy paper, to be submitted to government bodies and decision-makers in order to support economic development plans in the country.
