Informed sources revealed on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) the outlines of the expected distribution of ministerial portfolios allocated to the Kurdish component within the upcoming government cabinet.
The sources reported that the position of Deputy Prime Minister will be the share of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, in addition to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Reconstruction and Housing.
They indicated that the Ministry of Justice will be granted to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, with the possibility of allocating the Ministry of Environment to it within the final deals still under negotiation.
The sources mentioned that the New Generation Movement may obtain ministerial representation if understandings are reached with the Patriotic Union, or a ministerial seat may be allocated to small parties through a joint candidate.
They added that the discussions include the possibility of involving the Kurdistan Islamic Union, the Position Party, and other Islamic parties, reflecting balance calculations inside the Kurdish house.
This distribution comes within the context of traditional balances between the two main parties in the Kurdistan Region, which have shared the political scene since the 1990s.
