The Ministry of Trade confirmed that Iraq has completed more than 80% of the technical and legal requirements for joining the World Trade Organization, expecting the file to be fully resolved during upcoming meetings in Geneva. This includes updating laws related to customs, taxes, and consumer protection to align with established international rules. Officials explained that accession will help attract direct foreign investment by providing a transparent and stable legal environment for international investors. Iraq will also work to benefit from the organization's technical expertise in developing private sector capabilities and qualifying it to compete in global markets, opening new horizons for exporting non-oil Iraqi products and enhancing the diversity of national income sources away from crude oil market fluctuations.
