mniraq - The Ministry of Agriculture identified three essential crops whose import has been opened in light of local market needs, production levels, and supply. Ministry spokesman Qusay Al-Hattab explained that the ministry opened imports for tomatoes, onions, and potatoes based on directives from the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, emphasizing that decisions are not random but based on regular reports and field tours by specialized teams in main vegetable markets.
He added that imported crops are subjected to rigorous inspection at border crossings according to valid regulations and instructions, in coordination with security and competent authorities to ensure food safety and keep pace with local consumption requirements.
