Communications and Media Commission Nears Finalization of Starlink Service Licensing Procedures in Iraq

The Executive Office of the Communications and Media Commission (CMC) announced that Iraq is in the final stages of completing the licensing procedures for "Starlink" satellite internet services. This paves the way for introducing this modern technology into the local market within a comprehensive regulatory framework that safeguards national interests and keeps pace with global digital advancements. During the Iraqi Telecom Summit, the CMC emphasized that the sector has become a sovereign pillar for the digital economy and smart services, noting that the upcoming phase will focus on improving service quality and developing technical monitoring tools. The CMC reaffirmed its commitment to establishing a fair competitive environment and promoting fiber optic projects, satellite communications, 5G technologies, and artificial intelligence, aiming to achieve a sustainable digital transformation that meets the country's future aspirations.
