The US Department of State has announced the extension of the ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel for an additional 45 days, in a move aimed at consolidating the truce. This announcement coincided with the setting of new dates for the resumption of the negotiating and security track between the two sides. A statement from the State Department clarified that a fourth round of negotiations will commence in early June to discuss files related to stability and de-escalation. The statement also revealed the launch of a joint security track in late May, involving high-level military delegations from both countries to discuss field arrangements. This extension follows a wave of military escalation, and comes amidst intensive US efforts to facilitate direct dialogue between the concerned parties to reach a comprehensive and sustainable peace and security agreement in the region.
