Scientific Initiative to Combat the "Water Hyacinth" Pest in Iraqi Rivers Using Biological Control

Amid the worsening environmental issues caused by the "Water Hyacinth" plant in water bodies and rivers, scientific proposals have emerged advocating biological control as an alternative to traditional mechanical solutions. Agricultural experts have introduced a sustainable environmental solution involving the use of a specialized insect known as the "Water Hyacinth Weevil," which has proven effective in limiting the spread of this pest in certain local areas. This insect feeds on parts of the plant, weakening its ability to grow and float, thereby reducing its density to manageable levels. The "Water Hyacinth" is an invasive plant that obstructs water flow and negatively impacts biodiversity and the agricultural sector, necessitating rapid intervention based on successful international experiences.
