Rights and Freedoms Council Warns Against Enacting the Information Technology Crimes Law

mniraq - The Iraqi Council for Rights and Freedoms has warned of the severe repercussions of enacting the draft Information Technology Crimes Law, viewing it as a direct threat to freedom of expression. The Council emphasized that ignoring societal and journalistic objections turns the legislation into a tool for suppressing public freedoms. The rejection is based on the draft's unconstitutionality, the use of vague terminology, and the imposition of severe penalties, including life imprisonment. The Council demanded the immediate withdrawal of the draft and its rewording with the participation of experts to ensure the protection of digital rights.
