Regulatory and local authorities in Diyala Governorate have called on executive authorities for urgent intervention and the reopening of investigations into what is known as the major embezzlement case involving compensation funds allocated for affected and displaced families. The value of the looted funds is estimated at approximately 40 billion Iraqi dinars, which were embezzled through influential corruption networks within local institutions. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of revealing the fate of these funds, which were intended to support vulnerable groups and enable them to return to their original areas. It was noted that expanding the investigations could uncover additional embezzled amounts, making it imperative to take strict legal action to hold those involved accountable, ensure the recovery of squandered public funds, and distribute the dues to their rightful owners.
