The Ministry of Electricity disclosed on Friday a substantial gap between actual power production and domestic demand. The Ministry announced the launch of a widespread campaign, directly supervised by the Deputy Minister for Transmission and Distribution Affairs, to remove illegal connections from the national grid in Baghdad and all provinces, acting upon directives from the Supreme Judicial Council. The Ministry clarified that current production stands at approximately 20,000 MW, while actual demand is estimated at 62,000 MW, noting that technical, non-technical losses, and illegal connections account for over 55% of generated power. Furthermore, recent regional events have caused the grid to lose nearly 7,000 MW. The Ministry urged citizens to cooperate with technical teams and settle outstanding bills to support the stability of the electrical network.
