The State Board of Antiquities and Heritage warned on Friday (May 8, 2026) against the spread of inaccurate information through social media platforms and media interviews that harm the historical facts of Iraq's cultural heritage.
The authority explained in an official statement that it continuously monitors content that includes distortion of scientific facts without referring to reliable sources or coordinating with competent authorities, confirming that this misleading spread affects the image of Iraq's civilizational heritage and negatively impacts collective memory.
The authority called on the public to verify the accuracy of information before circulating it, and thanked sincere efforts aimed at spreading archaeological awareness.
It also urged content creators and influencers to cooperate in producing accurate media materials that highlight cultural heritage objectively, and called on media outlets to coordinate with it to ensure hosting specialized experts and academics in preserving the accuracy of historical information.
