Iran's permanent mission to the United Nations has accused the United States of using the UN Security Council as a political tool to support what it described as "illegal measures." In an official statement, the mission dismissed Washington's attempts to portray growing support for a resolution against Tehran as "ridiculous and deceptive" and purely politically motivated.

The mission affirmed that no amount of support resulting from pressure and coercion can legitimize US actions against Iran, including naval blockades, the seizure of Iranian commercial ships, and the detention of their crews, describing these acts as "piracy." It noted that many countries joined the draft resolution under direct pressure and threat from the American side.

The mission concluded its statement by saying that the US representative's claims of wide support are a desperate attempt to create legitimacy for predetermined political goals and undermine the Security Council's credibility. This comes as diplomats revealed Washington amended its proposed draft by removing a clause based on Chapter VII of the UN Charter, while retaining strict language against Tehran, following a previous Russian-Chinese veto of an earlier resolution.
