Sources have revealed the Iraqi government's intention to send a negotiating delegation to Turkey next month to discuss the water file and Iraq's share of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. The delegation will include representatives from the ministries of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Environment, along with specialized experts. This move follows an unprecedented decline of over 40% in Iraq's water revenues over the past five years, causing severe environmental and economic damage, including the drying of the marshes and the degradation of vast agricultural lands. The sources emphasized that the water issue is a matter of national security, stressing the need to secure a legally binding agreement that guarantees a fair share for Iraq under international transboundary river laws, alongside the formation of a joint technical committee to monitor water flows.
