A security source reported that Baghdad's Green Zone has been closed and is under a state of maximum security alert, ahead of the parliamentary session scheduled to grant confidence to the government of Prime Minister-designate Ali Al-Zaydi. The source explained that security forces began implementing a special security plan in the early morning hours to secure the perimeter and entrances of the zone.
Measures include rigorous inspection procedures and a vehicle ban on several roads leading to the Green Zone, with a state of mobilization involving army and federal police units. The Council of Representatives had previously announced the session to discuss and vote on the ministerial curriculum and the new cabinet line-up headed by Al-Zaydi.
