Four Drug Trafficking Networks Dismantled and 14 Suspects Arrested in Basra Governorate

The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs announced on Saturday, May 30, 2026, the dismantling of four criminal networks specializing in drug trafficking, resulting in the arrest of 14 suspects in Basra Governorate over the past week. The Directorate explained that the operations were based on precise intelligence efforts and led to the capture of one of the most dangerous wanted individuals, who is implicated in serious criminal cases including murder and armed robbery, in addition to drug trafficking. The statement confirmed that the raids involved armed confrontations which resulted in the injury of two security personnel. It reiterated the commitment of security forces to continue their war against the drug epidemic and dismantle its sources in cooperation with judicial authorities and citizens.
