mniraq - Engineering and technical teams in Dhi Qar Governorate are continuing their work to install water barriers as part of an extensive campaign aimed at combating the spread of the "water hyacinth" plant, which obstructs water flow. The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed the initiation of constructing new barriers on the Euphrates and Gharraf rivers to prevent the transfer of aquatic plants to other areas and to alleviate blockages in waterways. The work includes installing barriers near the University of Dhi Qar and in the districts of Karma Bani Saeed, Suq Al-Shuyukh, and Al-Fuhud, as well as on the Gharraf River. These measures aim to enhance the smooth flow of water, ensure it reaches benefiting areas, and protect the environmental and biological diversity of the water bodies.
